Its so easy to get bored with the same hairstyle everyday, thats why hair extensions are a brilliant and easy way to switch your hairstyle for a extreme change or a subtle look.
Today there are so many styles and colours to choose from and are really easy to get hold of without even making an appointment at the salon.
Another great thing about them is if you buy a natural hair peice ( not synthetic hair ) to can dye the hair so you can get many uses out of them.
Hair extensions can come in some funky colours and prints, these kind of wefts are great for those who like the adventurous crazy colours but are not brave enough for the permanent change.
You can even buy some hair extensions to help create updo's for a glam night out, my personal favourite is the fish tail plaits.
Clip in fringes are also really good for a mini make-over.
If your hair lacks bounce or you haven't got time for the massive blow dry, this extensions gives you instant glam.
If you colour your hair and finding it hard to find extensions to match your colour, the best way to acheive is a little bit of d.i.y....
When buying your hair extension to dye, remember the extension can only be dyed darker by 2 shades, or a toner can be added. I mean you can buy the lightest shade hair extension to dye to your required shade but it can get complicated with pre-pigment prior to the colour application.
Its not advisable for them to be lightened or bleached as they have already been through the chemical process also it is likely to effect the condition of the hair.
When applying your hair colour remember to keep your hair flat to prevent tangling and you must completely saturate the extensions in dye to prevent an uneven result.
I would dye each stripe one at a time and always perform a test strand.
This means dyeing just a few strands of hair first to check the result shade is correct.
Do not rub or tangle the hair, apply the dye using the flat palms of your hand pat it through the hair is a stroking motion from root to tip.
The hair extension can be dyed several times but remember, just as your own hair it will become damaged from certain dyes so will your extensions.
Always follow the dye manufacturers instructions.
Also Extra Care...
Do not use styling products with a strong hold factor, a serum is
all that is needed. To avoid damage to your own hair (and the extensions)
remove before sleeping and remember clip in extensions are for occasional use
and should not be worn for prolonged periods of time. Always use heat
protection spray when applying heat to the extensions, do not use hair straighteners on synthetic hair just a low heat setting on your hair dryer. A complete shampoo and
treatment can be applied once every four to six weeks, only if needed (Hair
extensions don't have the supply of natural oils which your own hair has and
washing them too often will dry them prematurely). Apply diluted shampoo and
very gently stroke through the hair from root to tip keeping hands open and
flat, rinse and repeat with conditioner. The use of a shower head may be easier
and keeping the top clip part of the extension dry is recommended. Avoid
tangles and most hair extension instructions tell you to allow hair to air dry naturally, i do use a low heat setting on the dryer and with a brush gently blow down the hair shaft. Do not comb hair when wet. Drying
may be an overnight process, once dry gently comb through the hair starting at
the tips, apply a heat protection product and straighten each strip
individually, use a swift action and do not hold the straighteners in one
place.
Hope you found this information useful.
